My '03 came with a spare tire key. The first time I tried to use it, it took me an hour of trying to get it to work before I just tried using the crank without the key.
What do you know! It worked. Mine wasn't set up to use a key. Why did I get one? Did you try using the crank without a key first? Just a thought.
(so I have a key if needed; I'll see if it has a number if anyone is intersted)
I actually didn't realize that it had a key until the crank wouldn't hook on to anything. I took my phone and snapped a pic with flash down the tube and realized that there was a lock in there.

I did that on my previous 2003.
However, I have yet to do it to my 2006. Thanks for the reminder.
I was able to drop the tire by pounding a socket on it. From there, I was able to twist the plastic tube off and pop the lock off with a screwdriver. Now it works with just the crank.
