According to the 6.7 Powerstroke owners manual the engine should be idled for 3 min. prior to shutdown. Many times this is not possible for me to do. I wonder how many owners do the 3 min. idle and how many like me do not normally wait the time.

Here is what the manual says.. Don't think it that improtant unless you are towing or on a hot day...

On my 2005 I do not shut down until the EGT gauge reads 370 and intend to do the same on the 6.7 I have ordered,,, if I ever get it!!!

Without guages I only waited to shut it down after flogging on it or after pulling. Usually by coasting through my neighborhood..thats plenty of time for her to cool down under normal driving.

Is this a manual shutdown (wait time) or can the computer be set to turn it off
I normally have a turbo timer installed on my cars which controlls this automatically
As I am still waiting for my first F350 to arrive I am still on a learning curve
Manual.....sit there and wait.
However there have been turbo timers for these trucks in the past...not sure if there is one out yet for these newer models
Had a shutdown timer in my GMC, worked great and used it almost every time if I had used the throttle more then a very light touch right before stopping.
If I didn't set the timer I would usually wait until the pyro dropped to 300.
As more and more turbos have water jacketed center bearings this become less of an issue. But - it certainly cannot hurt the turbo by assuring that the center bearing has cooled down sufficiently.
Don't know what the Ford turbo spins at, but typical speeds under a load can be anywhere form 100,000 - 200,000 RPMS's
