I'm new to old Ford trucks but not cars or motorcycles. I've had a lot of different iron from '68 on up. Grew up a Cheby guy but I've owned more Fords over the past 32 years.
I'm picking this bad boy up TOMORROW (which can't come fast enough) from a friend in NC. '65 F250, power front discs, 352 w/headers and dual exhaust, 4 spd. I'm looking forward to learning about the SLICKS. Future plans are power steering and maybe a C6.
HEY! I hope it looks as good in person as the pics.Fun times to be had with that.P/S swap is EZ. Just about anyone here can help you out with that. Were at in ga and nc?
Welcome to the Family of Ford Truck Enthusiast, Welcome to FTE!! Cool truck, really like the color scheme. Appears there's an auxillary tank filler door on passenger side bed, if so, what an advantage, who ever installed did an outstanding job, looks good. As for the 4sp., been driving my 65 for past 40 plus yrs. and really like it, although because the gear ratio in 1st is so low I rarely, if ever use it. Again, welcome to FTE.

Thanks. I'm picking it up in Charlotte and I'm outside of Atlanta in Roswell. My friend has this truck and two 66 short beds (428 and 390). I drove the truck last weekend when I was there for Thanksgiving. It is tight any had a motor rebuild 7 or 8 years ago with 30k on it since. I wasn't able to bring it back because my wife and I got a flat (sidewall) on Thanksgiving Day and we had to back in GA on Friday. I didn't want her driving on the full size temp spare so I drove.
I'm getting all of the PS conversion stuff with the truck. I'll either get a shorter steering column or have mine shortened.
If I end up doing an auto, I'm going with the Lokar shifter to keep it in the floor. My buddy at work has a '94 F150 with the same shifter and it's pretty cool.

Roger that! My DD is an '09 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon that is lifted with 33's. I get 14mpg no matter if I'm around town or on the highway (@ 80mph). So I'm used to bad mileage. I'm expecting about 10-12 mpg from the '65.

Yes, it has the aux tanks. When he had the truck painted, he replaced the fuel filler doors. The paint on the truck is excellent.

You may want to expect 7-8, if you can get to 9 or 10 you will be doing good for a 250. Doubt you can squeeze more than 10 from it unless you drive it home at 45 mph. They just don't get much better.
I am 100 miles E of charlotte now as of june.Moved here from harris county near hamilton if ya know where that is.Wishin I was still there.
If you go to charlotte evey now and then. You might be interested in a COM I will be taking out soon. Not soon enuf for you to ge it at the same time as the truck though. The c-6 would be the way to go,which is what I am doing. There is nothing wrong with my com, just dont want to scrap it if I dont have to.
And you got a 4spd. might not have to cut it if your using the floor shift IDK. Shortening a 65-66 steering shaft is not hard at all anyway. Do a search and you might find it. There was a member here who was really good on that.Rustpicker or Banjopicker I think. One is in GA around atl and the other I think NC. I come and go around here so I am not up on them.
Got home this afternoon with the Slick. 250 miles averaging about 64mph. Got 10.2mpg.
I have everything to install the power steering including the steering column. I need to get it painted and then I can start on it. Probably be a January project.
I have to get the firewall sealed up. There are a couple areas that are open like around the brake booster/rod and the steering column.
Going to order door seals this week - maybe the floor mat too.
I also want to try to find the material to get the seat reupholstered. The vinyl is in excellent condition so I want to see if a shop can redo the cloth inserts.
I have the original receipt for the truck which is pretty cool.
