the rangers equipped with the 3.0 liter is only designed to two up to 3000 lbs. 5000 lbls is only if the truck is factory equipped with the heavy duty towing package. hope this info. helps.

You maybe could get away with it if you had the 4.0L motor. But your biggest problem is going to be stopping that boat rather than getting going.
I used to haul a 86' 16' Aluminium Lund tyee 4-9 all the time with my ranger, but it was a heck of a lot lighter than your boat.
I don't think that it's a good idea to tow it, IMO.
well i guess i have to buy a new truck!! anyone want to buy a red edge/ hahah..... the trailer will have brakes one of the guys at the boat yard said he towed a 24 sea ray with his 2000 ranger 3.0.ill give it a shot and see what happenes what the heck the truck is leased anyway!!!! thanks guys!!! johnnieg
If you have a brake controller then you may be ok, but just remember that the insurance company may have other things to say about it if your in a accident.
Ford trucks will haul / tow a LOT more than their rated capacity. I have hauled 3,180 lbs. of rock in my F-150 before. I also used to tow twice it's rated capacity with little problem. So yes, you CAN do it with your truck. It would be a shame to buy another truck just to tow a boat.
However, be warned that exceeding rated capacities may void your warranty, AND if you are in an accident and your insurance company finds out about it you could have problems there too. Be careful, and tow it at your own risk...that's about all the advice I can offer you.
