Does the 4.0 have a redline?

My truck's tach has no redline marked on it. Yesterday I was climbing a steep hill at about 4800 RPM or so and it felt like the tranny starting slipping or something. It seemed to cut out every once in a while. I had never experienced that before...and I'm just wondering if it is possible that I was approaching redline on the engine and the computer was causing the truck to "cut out" on me. Any ideas?

...but 4800 DOES seems a bit early for ECM-induced fuel cutoff to begin, unless redline is 5k. Seems a bit low to me, but could be correct since it's a big V-6 (as sixes go). This should be easy to find out, though.

4800? Well, that partially answers why your fuel economy stinks, but you sure don't have a carbon problem!

If I'm not mistaken, the tach goes to 6,000 RPM...so I thought 4,800 would be a bit early for the computer to be cutting off my fuel too.

And like I said, that was the first time I have ever had the engine turning that hard. I normally drive my truck like an 80 year-old grandmother, and I still can't hit 16 miles per gallon.

Maybe it was the transmission then. These 5-speed autos do seem to be pretty "slushy". Would a performance chip solve that problem?

Does the 4.0 have a redline?

Yesterday, pulling up the same hill at 3,000 RPM, my truck started doing the same thing. It started to stumble and loose power off/on again. I'm thinking now maybe it's an engine related problem. It only bucks and stumbles like that when it's really under a load, i.e. pulling up a steep grade.

Do any of you guys think new plugs/wires would be a good place to start with this problem?

Plugs, plug wires, and don't forget fuel filter......and don't
forget there is only one plug for your 4.0L Motorcraft
double platinums (AGSF22PPs I think)...

Thank you. I thought the correct plugs were regular platinum or something like that, but I'll check on it. Is the fuel filter hard to change? Don't I need a special tool or something?
