Question 79 steering issues

I recently pick up a running 79 bronco for $500. Everything works fine and it runs like a beast, but whenever I try to turn left it seems like the power steering goes out, the pump whines and the fluid looks frothy with bubbles. Is there air in the line and would that cause it to lose ps? Also if that's the case is there an easy way to fix it? Thanks for any help.

If it is the box, you will need a rebuilt one

What Rusty said about jacking up the front end may help if they let the reservoir get low and then added fluid. I had the problem with my 78, and did the jack up and turn the wheel lock to lock about a 1/2 dozen times and it went away. Just keep an eye on fluid level in the pump reservoir. My power steering system leaks, so I have to add fluid occasionally. Since it isn't a daily driver and mostly gets beat around off road it isn't a big deal for me.

If you find out it is the box i have a rebuilt one with about 5000miles on it just sitting here. Nobody seems to want it because of the cost of shipping although i am giving it away(no longer have the bronco, now an F350 4x4). If you are not to far away it might work if you are interested. Roy.

I'm located in Palm Bay, Florida. I guess there's two kinds of pumps though? A 'ford' one, and a 'canned ham' one, that's what someone described it to me as. About how much would shipping be? I might be interested in taking it off your hands for you:]

I found a power steering pump, the guy has two of 'em. I put lucas ps fix in it today, and it actually worked for a couple minutes but then I lost my ps altogether.
