ideling question

i started my truck this morning its not the coldest but the wind chill is 31 it started rite up with no problems. but it ideled for about a minute then reved up to around 1000rpm. is this normal?

Yes, normal. The exhaust has a hissing sound as well. It should idle down by touching the brake.

Yep I heard the hissing and as soon as I hit the brake it went back down

Like the others have said, it's normal.

The PCM will automatically bump up the idle and engage the exhaust backpressure valve (EBPV) to help warm up the engine faster. The EBPV puts a slight load on the engine to help get the oil temps up a little quicker than just regular idling. As you noticed, it did this after about a minute after starting the truck. The PCM in colder weather keeps the glow plugs operating for as much as 2 minutes after starting the engine (depending on temperatures). Once the glow plugs shut off, it automatically goes into high idle mode and engages the EBPV, and the intake air heater element.
