I have a 69 F150 with drums all around. I picking up a junked mid 70s ford van. Do the vans have the twin I-beams that I could swap onto the 69 for front discs? Are there any parts I should be looking for on the van that may come in useful?
I have a 64,69, and 85 Ford trucks.
I looked into the reverse of this several years ago, as I wound up with a motorhome on a '70 E300 van chassis. It has drum brakes and I was considering swapping in the entire I-beams, disc brakes and all from my '72 F250 parts truck. But as I recall, there's a difference in frame width that made this swap not doable, and possibly kingpin diameter that meant I couldn't even swap the hubs/etc. I never bothered to research it further as I am now preparing to junk both vehicles.
There should be a lot of good usable stuff on there...for someone. Offhand I can't think of what might be a direct swap, probably not much, but there should be some parts that can be made to work in a pinch. But don't take my word for the front beams not working, take a few minutes with a measuring tape and check just to be sure.
take the I-beams and all of the rest of the front suspension off and the steering linkage ,
and then all of the brake stuff , master cylinder , booster if it has one !

Completely forgot about the booster. I may not get discs on the 68, but I might get power! And power steering too! What about the rearend? I need limited-slip or posi for my 85.
Econoline brake parts do not interchange with F100/350 brake parts.
First Econoline disc brakes: 1975, all previous years had drums.
Econolines are integral bodied thru 1974, do not have a separate frame....so the suspension is different.
1969/74 Econolines used Power Assist P/S, not used on any F100/250 2WD.
You just had to burst my bubble! I kinda figured as much, but I though I would ask. I'm pretty sue the van has discs up front. I'm thinking it's about a 77. I'll look it over good for anything that might come in handy later. What's the power assist? Just a regular P/S system, but not the kind used on a truck?
Sounds like you have the later full-frame van. It would have full power steering, not just power-assist like the earlier vans. Power-assist systems generally had a conventional non-power steering box, but had a hydraulic cylinder powered by a power steering pump hooked into the steering linkage to provide easier steering. Here's an illustration:
None of the steering stuff will swap over if it's a 75+. The vans had the steering in front of the axle, trucks through 79 had it behind the axle.
The interior door handles are the same as 68-72 trucks, I think the armrests were too. Wheels should swap over though-
