Well yes, you have to jack it up first and take the weight off them first. I replaced the keys on my Mountaineer with re-keyed ones to lift it, and didn't need a c-clamp. Just un-screw the bolt all the way and they will be loose by the time you get to the end. Why do you think you need to replace the torsion bars?
I would just give the bolt a few turns up and see if you can get your ride hight back. They are adjustable. If its still soft or not sitting right, then change them. Thats just my opinion...

Mine are beat.I already have the bolts turned in quite a ways and my 32s rub. I was going to put in the #1 bars for added height and weight capacity because i am putting a plow on the front as well
