I have a Boss 8' Super Duty trip edge plow, very easy to put on/off. I went with the trip edge instead of the trip blade because it keeps the blade upright all the time. Boss now has HID lights standard, it was an option when I got mine. The other thing that I liked about Boss was that the plow uses a fixed lift cylinder instead of a chain so no bouncing plow when you go over bumps.
I also had a spring shop make up an extra leaf to bring my front springs up to 6000# and that added 1.5-2" of lift, about like a leveling kit would. The OEM plow prep kit gives you 6000# springs up front, and with the diesel and plow it helps. I've even toyed with the idea of adding Timbrens up front too...
Man, that’s a good price! I got a 7”6” steel, straight blade, super-duty. I paid $5700 installed, but we get raked on shipping for everything up here! I’ve only had the plow installed for a few weeks, but have already used it several times. All I can say is that Boss plows are sweet! And the mounting system is the cat’s meow! Obviously I can’t speak for long term reliability and maintenance costs though, but like you everything I hear about Boss is positive.
I would think the 8’ poly super-duty would be plenty well built. I don’t have any experience with Fisher.
One thing you may want to consider with Boss is the optional joy-stick controller. The standard paddle type controller seemed too awkward for me, though several people I know swear by them. The joy-stick just feels way more intuitive, like a video game. Unfortunately, you have to pay extra. For all the money I dropped on the plow it would have been nice to have a choice on controllers, but the joy-stick costs about $150 extra. It also took a little work to mount it in my cab (I didn’t want to shell out yet another $60 for the “mounting kit” – which is nothing more than a few stamped sheet-metal brackets), but in the end, well worth it IMO.
i was about to PM you and ask how you are liking the plow! i'm glad to hear you are.
i work at the local boss dealer and i've run a boss 7'6" super duty since 2000 i absolutly love it! no major problems with it in the last ten years. only issues i had were wear/tear items. so ofcourse i'm bias to BOSS but i have run a few others (myers and western) i felt they were not built as well or held up as well but everyone has a story to tell about which is the best.
Thanks to all!!
One thing I was surprised to find out that the poly blade plow is almost 30lbs heavier than the same steel plow. I have also heard the Boss is superior for back dragging due to better down force.
One remaining question I have is in the event of a hydraulic failure on the boss plow how do you get the blade back up to get home?
On the fishers they have a chain so you can lift it up and short chain it to get home. Thoughts or comments?
