I have a mounainear crate motor in my mustang, not sure of the year but it did come with cast iron gt-40 heads. Anyway The heads are now aluminum afr. I am in the process of changing out the cam and really need to know what ration the rocker arms are. I have a feeling they are 1.5 because each one is stamped with a "5". Thanks in advance for the help.
I beleive that you are correct. The stock rocker ratio for the gt40p heads is in a Mountaineer engine is 1.5. Most people put a 1.6 roller rockers on them. Some have even put 1.7 ratio rockers on.

they were not the "p" heads. Any idea on the regular gt-40 heads?
The rockers you have are 1.6. The stamping 5 is a ford thing and doesnt indicate the ratio. I would still swap to a 1.6 roller rocker though. Choose the lift you want with the cam and not the rocker, you will acheive better rocker arm geometry with the 1.6 over the 1.7.
I'm sure they werent "p" heads, they are long since gone but my fms shorty headers bolted right up and from what I understand "p" heads require a special header.
You don't HAVE to use special headers for "p" heads. There are a couple that fit without modification. Some headers will fit if you put a small ding in a couple of the tubes, run the shorter (stock for a mountaineer/explorer) spark plugs and 90* boot spark plug wires.
My search goes on for a set of used gt40p heads.......
