CCV removal = pressure buildup?

I thought I would try the CCV reroute and simply remove the plastic piece in the air tube, capped the hole and flipped the plastic piece around and stuck a length of 1" hose over it and routed it beside the engine and past the axle. Well, I then noticed smoke out my pipe, mostly whitish blueish smoke and oil dripping out of my down pipe, on the engine leaving a puddle. I talked to a friend who deals with mostly 7.3's and said if you do that on a 7.3 they can build up pressure in the crankcase and blow the oil pan gaskets out and the valve cover gaskets out. He said the CCV system needs a slight vacuum for the "valve" to open and let the CC gases out into the intake. I thought he was crazy, but I returned my truck to "stock" and the dripping oil and smoke stopped. I guess I was building up crankcase pressure and it was not allowing the oil to drain into the turbo drain tube and out the seal? Anyone heard of this????
Thanks!

I have the ccv vent routed through a filter and back to the turbo inlet. I routinely measure the crankcase pressure and it is completely within specification (0.3 psig).

Does your 1" line have a low spot in it that can collect moisture and become a blockage?

Bismic, does it really need a vacuum? On our big trucks it was always vented out the bottom of the motor into the air through a tube.

I unhooked mine and just ran it through a 1" tube down the side of the engine on the outside of the frame rail. Seems to be working fine. Will I have a future problem. Only have a couple of thousand miles on it since I changed it.

IMO it does not need a vacuum. Ford's spec is less than 0.3 psig.

I have done the ccv a 1 inch hose to back of the truck. durning the winter some condenstion build up in the hose and froze this cause pressure to build up and blew out the oil seal in the turbo. and smoked like hell. now I just have the hose to the bottom of the cab.

No, it was a pretty short hose, only 3', it was all down hill. What is inside the breather housing on the valve cover?
