ok so i am 19now iv own a 84 6.9idi turbo
done some work on it. injectors, starter, glowplugs, fuel system, and the electrical still is gone south so now i want a new truck
i love the 7.3 but i can get a 2006 for the same price and the insurance isnt a big deal breaker for me either way i go. all my buddies run the first generation 7.3's but i like the 99-03.
from wut i hear the 6.0's like to have soem problems i am courius wut to look for. i have found a nice 06 230k has the egr delete with cooler done by ford (guy knows someone in ford that did it for him at the dealer) i didnt know the dealer could do it. the truck sounds like a good buy he said he changed some of the injectors, so that means more then likly theres a 3000$ job comming up in the future.
the main reason i say i wana buy a 06 is beacuse i am moving to germany with military orders, the 06 will give me no restricitons in germany while my 7.3 will... so now i am just on the hunt for a nice 06 that wont die in the next to yrs cuz no one really knows these trucks and parts will have to be imported any good tips?
if I were going to Germany I don't think I would buy a high mile 6.0
well i dont really consider 200's high for a diesel. as long as it has been well maintained, and run great its fine in my opinion. as long as i can stay way from a truck that need maintaince done in a shop then i will end up with a junk truck in germany. things like injectors, glow plugs, simple things can all be done by me. i am not afraid to turn a wrench, i understand these will cost a bit, but a 7.3 will also have the same milage and be due for the same things. ie injectors glow plugs. i rather have somethign newer so electrical wont go out and i wont have to worry about the lil things that will add up with having a 10yr old truck. just like my 84 and my other 2 cars 72 76.
well I should have said I wouldn't bring a 6.0 to Germany
at least not if I couldn't get it either worked on or diagnosed
there are a lot of expensive parts on these and some problems need a advanced diagnostic device to trace down
I would be more inclined to buy whatever the armed services use for light duty diesels in germany and find the civilian equivalent if possible ,, but thats just me
If on a limited budget and going to any foreign country I would get the cheapest and easiest vehicle to work on that I could find. It's only for 2 years and you don't want a high dollar albatross hanging around your neck when you return. You could also be deployed and then what??
There is a person on one of the 6.0L forums (could be FTE - just can't recall) from Sweden. He has a heck of a time w/ parts and finding Techs to work on his truck. It can be a royal pain to have problems w/ a 6.0L in Europe from what I gather.
I see posters from all around the world finding the handfull of Ford forums I am on, looking for help because no one in there location has a clue ,, I definetly wouldn't want to be in their shoes , even with all I know and the tests I can run I still need the dealer for some things
i do understand about the working on the ford over there. u can ushally find guys on post who know wut there talking about, i know the 15 guys here there r 2 that know the fords decently well. there more gm but they know it.
i havent quite figure out how much extra it will cost me to ship the truck cuz there over 20metric tons, this is probably going to be the deal braker on me shipping any kinda truck over there. i am still just in the planning fase and wondering wut all could go wrong with the motor while i am over there
