I'm having a emission light that keeps coming on in my 2006 6.0 and am thinking of purchasing a code reader. I have had it into the dealership with a sensor changed and but continue to get it. Wondering if anyone out there has a ScanGaugeII and what they think about it?
How involved do you want to get with the Scanner? If you want to be able to pull code from all 9 modules on these trucks and light computer programming(not performance programming mind you), I would actually suggest something like Auto Enginuity's scan tool.
Thank you for the reply, I was mostly just looking to read the codes but you have brought up an interesting for me in the other 9 modules. Will the code reader you recommend catch them?

Well the thing is that those 8 other modules also throw codes. The codes that most off the shelf code readers get are the generic ones, typically there is a more specific code on one of those modules.
It's primary purpose is a code reader/datalogger. It just also can do some "mild" programming like adjust the speedo for bigger tires up to 40", stuff like that.
I highly recommend a tool/software like autoenginuity if you are a DIY type of person. Reading the standard DTCs is very limited. Most of my diagnostics come out of the additional 486 PIDS that Ford has above and beyond an additional standard code reader. The key is, you have to know what to do with the information you are getting or someone who is working with you on the truck, otherwise there is little value with that information.
just FYI the A/E will only read generic codes unless you buy the MFg specific "BUNDLE" upgrades
the good news is with the latest release you can check your injectors individual contribution
That is a very good point. I always assume, which is a very bad thing to do, that people will buy the 'Ford' specific bundle when we talk about these trucks. The 486 PIDS I was referencing are part of the Ford specific bundle, they are not included with the basic package.
Yes, both the software and Firmware for the ProLine USB device. However, I am waiting on them to generate the new activation code for the Ford bundle. Major release upgrades require the new code.
One more question about the reader program you suggested, do you also need the Enhanced Ford Expansion? I'm wondering what all is going wrong, now besides the emission light the wrench has come on!
