Has anyone experienced a consistantly rough downshift to first gear when slowing to a stop. The truck has the EB tow package...has a 5.4L and is a '99.
We had the same problem with our 97. It would clunk in 1 and 2 gears upon stopping. As well it would exhibit 'shift flaring', over-reving (it sounds like the torque converter will not engage).
We had a TSB 980920 performed (something to do with cross leakage in the transmission).
Then, two months later, the entire transmission was replaced.
Make sure you have it recorded by the dealer, so when your Expy is out of warranty, you have proof it occured during the warranty period. Keep good records.
I have a 2000 expy, EB 5.4. 120K had the tranny flushed last time at 80K. should I have the tranny flushed again, or drain the pan and change the filter. The tech at the dealer said that flushing is all I need to do, since the filter is really a metal screen and flushing cleans that out as well, draining and changing the filter is not needed. any help would go a long way
but by changing just the filter and dropping the pan, you only get out about 3/4 quarts, is that enought? do you really consider that an Trans oil change?

Drain the torque converter too and you'll need 16 or 17 quarts to refill....at least on a 4r100.
