Hello,we are currently camping and while pulling my 5th wheel lost power. It seems to be getting warm then loses power. So after pulling off and idleing for 10min. Everything is fine for a while. My loud fan is not kicking on.Is ther something I can look for?The connector is plugged in.Coolant is good. Thanks guys. Jim
jim w/o a scan tool its hard to say. the fan not comming on if your engine is gettinmg to hot is a bad thing. best bet is to find someone local to take a look at it
If the heat is causing it to defuel you need it taken care of asap.
Yeah,I am out here till Sunday,I'm gonna have a hard time finding someone to look at it.Its pretty much down hill all the way home.I wonder if it'll be alright.as long as I just cruise it seems good, even pulling 14k.
if the thermostat is open then wouldn't that make the engine cooler, not hotter?
And besides the fan, if you are getting too hot then your cooling system may not bee flowing enough, may also have a bad water pump. Any codes? gauges?
No codes, everything checked out perfect. He said the t-stat being stuck( maybe half way) causes the temps to not be regulated properly.I brought a new t-stat back to camp and change in the A.M.save the labor! I hope he's right!
I think the tech might have meant that the t-stat was stuck closed...that would then make sense....also look over the engine compartment real good to make sure something has become disconnected.

A missing t-state will cause an overheat condition all the time thats why race cars have restrictors in them.
what happens is coolant is not allowed to stay in the radiator long enugh to get cooled by ram air.

Yes i agree and understand. For this situation it did not make sence that that it would over heat with it open.
