Ok so will this stupid eliminator pully fit on my 93 5.8 or not? Ive been reading so much stuff im confused. Ive tried bypassing it with a 94 which is to short and a 94.5 jumps all over.
I want to something to this thread... On my 5.0L I'm using a shorter belt and NO air pump or eliminator bracket. After running mine and watching the belt, even at RPM around 6000-6500, I get very little belt "flap". Certainly not enough to warrant the need of an eliminator bracket on mine.
Travis, where is the tentioner on yours? If its up top between the alt. And airconditioning compresser, you are fine with out the eliminator pulley. If its between the air pump and the alt(like mine) a shorter belt seemes to be hit and miss. Mine was fine for the first couple houndred miles, than, it would jump a groove or two, after a wile it would flop off when you stsrted the pickup or the A/C kicked in.
But, the way I understand it is this bracket will fit in place of any air pump with a serpentine belt on a ford. Just have to figure out the size of belt you will than need.

Oh I got where your coming from. Mine has the tensioner up top between the alt and A/C compressor.

If you alter the belt routing a bit, the low mount tensioner setup will work satisfactorily without the need for an idler in place of the smog pump. The routing of the belt is as follows: from the crank pulley around the water pump pulley, to the ps pump, to the ac compressor, under the tensioner (not the idler), to the alternator, then back to the crank pulley. You won't use the upper idler pulley in this configuration. On a 5.0L, this routing will require a 93.7" or 94.0" belt (93.7" is best, but takes a little effort to get into place).
