Winter driving?

This is the first time driving my truck with the temp below freezing. I noticed the waste gate noise was louder and no boost pressure. I set the Dp to stock settings during snow and ice driving. It takes a good half hour before the waste gate noise goes away and I get the boost pressure back. Is this normal?

It's the EBPV, not the wastegate. Yes, it's normal.

Kinda sounds like your Exhaust Back Pressure Valve was closed. It's purpose is to help warm up the engine. Might be somewhat normal. Let's see what some others have to say when they see this post.

I saw "Winter Driving" and so badly wanted to reply with "Just mash the go pedal in 4 wheel drive!!!" LOL

And yes, very normal, you should hear mine hissss, it's crazy loud with it being so cold. It's -6 at this very moment, and not C either, -6 F

Not only is it annoying and causes power loss it also causes worse fuel milage. I live where its cold and have done tests with it pulgged in and unplugged and noticed no difference in warm up times. You can unplug it

thanks for all the reply. Verdict is in. EBPV being unplugged. No leaks from the it so will do some some research on fooling the PCM.

First winter with my 02 7.3. I've noticed this very similar problem with my truck. I'm new to diesels so I'm just learning. So this is to be expected?

It seems mine only hiss's on a slow acceleration between 12-1500 rpm's? I notiice that if i get into the pedal a bit it quits and the engine runs, but that power loss in between is crazy. If I get to normal temp and take off it seems to work fine. I've not plugged it in yet to see if it makes a difference butt from reading this it seems as though it wont.

EBPV makes a huge difference, especially when you add hi-idle to it. Try letting your truck sit for 5 minutes or so before driving away. My truck on stock tunes will idle up to about 900 rpm with the valve closed if you let it. Normally it releases with the brake, but when it idles high with the valve closed i think it gets the coolant temps up about twice as fast.

I parked at a truck stop in flagstaff overnite on my big trip, it got down to 15 degrees. Fired the truck up, switched over to high idle with ebpv, and it was blowing warm air in a couple minutes.

Plus if you ever get Jody's Decel tune, its a nice feature.
