Transmission Trouble
I have a 2001 Ford Excursion 7.3L Diesel automatic. The transmission started out not going into overdrive. Then the OD light started flashing, not constantly, and the other night I started to back up and the vehicle just stopped like it went into neutral. I pulled forward and it stopped again like it was in neutral, I did that a couple of time and then when back to reverse and it backed up just fine and the gears changed good. Does anyone have any advise?

Get the codes read, as it *might* just be a sensor gone bad. Sounds like it might be time for a new or rebuilt tranny, though. I've got the same vehicle you do, and just put a BTS in it.

X2 on the fluid change. If its due for a change you may want to change it. When you change the fluid it'll give you a good idea of the condition of your trany. You'll be able to see how much of your clutch packs are sittin in the bottom of the trany.
And if its in bad shape it may get worse when you change it. Then you'll know you need a new one.

About a week ago it threw a code showing is was slipping between 3rd and 4th gear. A mechanice has had it since Tuesday of this week and has been driving it. He say it is not showing any codes now and is running fine.
