General Tires opinion

Looking to buy four tires for my 2002 F150.
Previously, it had wide, low profile tires.
Don't want to go crazy on tires, but I want something that will get me going for another 20,000 miles.
The truck has 102,000 and is just supposed to get me through two years.
A local shop has General Grabber 255 70R16 for $600 out the door.
Sound like an okay deal?
General driving, not towing.
Thanks,
Mike

No.
At least on this side of ConUs it's not.

I just paid $581 for Yokohama Geolandar HT/S 265-70x17, no mount or balance. That was better than Tirerack when you figure the $100 shipping.....

As tires go, Tirerack, Consumer Reports and several other sites have reviews of the specific tires. Grabber HTS were first in the CR comparison fwiw. They show $105 per tire price--where they buy, I don't know but I wish I did.

My S'Crew came with Generals. Worst tire I ever had for wet traction, very easy to get stuck in the snow. They were noisey too. Put Michlens on the Truck at around 60K, Traction is great, and a much quieter tire. Got them at BJs, couldn't beat the price any where. Be careful about on-line tires, by the time you pay for shipping, mount and balance, they may not be a bargain. Not to mention the hassle if something goes wrong, with a tire.

I have the General Grabber HTS on my 2002 F150 Supercrew. I have been very pleased with them. Price - that is what I paid in Alabama with road hazard and lifetime rotation/balance. That is very close to the price from Tire Rack by time you figure in shipping and mounting and that does not include road hazard from Tire Rack.

Just make sure your getting the HTS with a tread rating of 640. Also make sure your not getting old date code tires. There is a 4 number code that indicates week and year of manufacture. 2210 would be 22nd week of 2010.

Good luck.

Aftrmidnite, I hear you brother.
Two of my vehicles came with General's straight form the factory.
I was told that all factory tires are just to get the vehicle from A to B.
Apparently, these are supposed to be different than the factory tires.
Quiet and with a 60K warranty.
Warrantees really mean nothing, but it has one at the least.
