Speedo / odometer not working... can I replace?

They are wired differently. One of the symptoms is that your charging system will no longer work, as you have already noticed.

Ya put old one in and now alt. is charging fine.

now I Checked pins on small black plug and have 11.8 volts on pins 1 and 3 so I guess I'm getting power to the cluster. sprayed it with electric cleaner and put some diolect grease on teh plug and put it all back together. Odometer now works and and no check engine light. It's working for now I doubt it's fixed so I will report back when it acts up again. Thanks all! I'll be searching for a F searies 96-97 cluster in the mean time.
