Center shifter

I agree here. I have only seen the center shifter on lighter trucks. Always a column shift on the HD's. Too many buttons and selectors to have to relocate. Besides, where would they put all of the cupholders?

Agreed, especially about the wasted space. After being in some F150's with the center shifter, the shifter sat up pretty high and you lost a lot of space because of the mechanism. I love the center console on the 2011 truck, especially the deep storage. To each his own though.

Wait...lets not go back to that.

I agree about not giving up storage, cup holders and not being practical. If they did do the center console shifter, that would surely do away with the center seat option as well. I don't see them offering the shifter both ways, it's just too complicated and costly to do it that way.
I'll take the risk and post what I really think. My former boss had a 2010 F150 and every time I rode in that truck I couldn't help but think how phallic that shifter looked and how odd it was to see him grip it like he was driving some sort of sports car.

But really, count me in the "no way, Jose" crowd for a Super Duty floor shift. On my last two 4X4s I even went for the transfer case control on the dash to get rid of that floor shift lever too.

you people act as if column-shift is a characteristic of a truck... it isn't. it never has been. The biggest trucks on the road are almost 100% manual shift, and that's on the floor. I've had plenty of trucks with manual shifters on the floor... only one with it on the column. I've also had plenty of cars with their auto shifters on the column. Even one with the three-on-the tree. Column versus floor/console is not a truck versus car thing.
That said, I'm glad the shifter on my truck is on the column. I like the cupholders and other storage that a console shifter doesn't allow for. If I used "manual mode auto" more, I'd want it on the console like it was in my last truck. Bump the shifter to the right, and you were in manual mode. up for upshift, down for downshift. worked well. in a TRUCK
