what is the chances that they would start using the center shifter like the 150's. Has anybody heard anything about this because a buddy of mine said he heard something about it. I told him that he was out of his mind but with that said I would really like to have one.
I would hate to have a center shifter, its a truck not a car. They would have to redesign the all the consoles a stuff, easier to leave it where it is at the steering column
I sure hope not! Plus seems like it would be awkward to use by the time you added all the manual shift and tow/haul buttons.
I agree here. I have only seen the center shifter on lighter trucks. Always a column shift on the HD's. Too many buttons and selectors to have to relocate. Besides, where would they put all of the cupholders?
No here, too.
Too much wasted space.
I personally am happy with the console of this 2011 model.
Pleanty of pockets and the cup holders are the best I've had in any Ford.
Personally, I like the center shifter on my F150, would have liked it in the Super Duty as well. Admittedly, I havn't got mine yet, so I cannot comment on the practicality.

Agreed, especially about the wasted space. After being in some F150's with the center shifter, the shifter sat up pretty high and you lost a lot of space because of the mechanism. I love the center console on the 2011 truck, especially the deep storage. To each his own though.
I would have never though to ask such a question...it is a truck
10 years ago people were probably saying that to the people asking for heated seats in their trucks lol, now we have heated and cooled seats even in our "it is a truck" trucks.

Yea, whatever happened to getting stuck to those hot, old vinyl seats?
Wait...lets not go back to that.
I agree about not giving up storage, cup holders and not being practical. If they did do the center console shifter, that would surely do away with the center seat option as well. I don't see them offering the shifter both ways, it's just too complicated and costly to do it that way.
I'll take the risk and post what I really think. My former boss had a 2010 F150 and every time I rode in that truck I couldn't help but think how phallic that shifter looked and how odd it was to see him grip it like he was driving some sort of sports car.

Oh man, I can never touch the shifter on my Porsche again.

Well yeah, that way when I'm in the Saab or the Vette instead of the trucks, I wouldn't be automatically reaching for the column shift that isn't there, and when I'm in the trucks, I wouldn't be automatically reaching for the floor shift that isn't there....
But really, count me in the "no way, Jose" crowd for a Super Duty floor shift. On my last two 4X4s I even went for the transfer case control on the dash to get rid of that floor shift lever too.
you people act as if column-shift is a characteristic of a truck... it isn't. it never has been. The biggest trucks on the road are almost 100% manual shift, and that's on the floor. I've had plenty of trucks with manual shifters on the floor... only one with it on the column. I've also had plenty of cars with their auto shifters on the column. Even one with the three-on-the tree. Column versus floor/console is not a truck versus car thing.
That said, I'm glad the shifter on my truck is on the column. I like the cupholders and other storage that a console shifter doesn't allow for. If I used "manual mode auto" more, I'd want it on the console like it was in my last truck. Bump the shifter to the right, and you were in manual mode. up for upshift, down for downshift. worked well. in a TRUCK
