Hi all, Im hoping someone here can steer me in the right direction. I picked up a 96 F350 crew cab dually back in August. Its a pretty clean truck with 77,000 miles. Except for the gremlin under the dash its been good so far. I first noticed it when I was driving it a few months ago on the highway it shut off and turned back on itself real quickly. Did this once in a blue moon. A few weeks ago it shut off at a light and took awhile to get fired back up. I noticed that the problem could be duplicated when you depressed the e brake and snapped it back with the release handle it would shut the truck off but would fire right back up with the key. Sometimes when your driving and the truck shuts itself off and you try to restart it the wait to start light will flicker and you can hear the glow plug relay snapping under the hood. I was able to go a week without it happening and it just reoccurred again last night but fired right back up. I wiggled the harness a bit under the dash when I got home but couldn't get it to happen again. Im thinking possible water leaking down there or a chaffed harness somewhere, possible a bad relay? I know the ICM was replaced before I bought the truck along with the CPS so now im guessing this guy may have been chasing the problem himself. The truck starts and runs beautiful when this isnt happening. Can anyone give me some pointers here. Thanks
Eric
It doesn't have a chip in it. I don't think it ever did, belonged to an older couple but who knows. I was thinking of pulling the PCM out and checking the connection for corrosion, maybe cleaning it up with alcohol and then spraying it with some diaelectric grease and putting it back together.
