for the 71 f250 camper special resto, we went back and forth with motor/tranny options and have decided to stick with the 390/C6. So this of course will be the easiest option as to no mod's or sepcial fabrication to motor mounts etc.
Now this also brings up other questions. The stock D60 that came with the truck has 4.11's and I really dont want to be restricted to 65mph down the highway.
What are my regearing options for the dana 60?
What are the options for converting the drum to disc? The truck came with factory disc up front and I would love to have 4 wheel discs.
It is doable, but I believe that anything higher than 3.73 means you have to get a new carrier. I think there are alot of companies out there that offer D60 disc kits. You definitely will have to change the proportioning valves to get the right bias for front and rear.
4:11(actually I think it is 4.10,but I am using what You originally wrote) is the cut off point for the carrier, meaning 3.54, 3.73 and 4.11 use the same carrier. 4.56 and lower ratio,= numerically higher 4.56-7.17 use a different carrier.

I did a full drum to drum swap of my original Dana 60 from 4.56 to a 3.73.The donor was a 1972 Camper Special. As far as the results...it's awesome. I cruise easily at 65 to 70mph.
The donor diff bolted right up, but I had to get a u-joint conversion ($30) to deal with the different yoke on th new diff.
Good luck,
Jason
you can get any ratios for the dana 60 that you want ! you also might think about a sterling 10.25 rear from a newer truck ( mid 80s - early 90s ) with 3.55 ratio . they can be bought real cheap and can also be converted to disks !
