hello all, new user here. can someone tell me, I have a 1990 f350 7.3 non turbo, theres a big plug laying across left fender well (facing motor) the plug is melted a little anyone know what alls in them and should it cause a problem like, lack of pulling power? thanks
Ford Fuel Injection » How To Run a Self-Test Does it look like this? If so it is the diagnostic connector for the transmission computer (assuming you have an E4OD trans). Will not affect engine operation.
Also if you look a few lines down from this forum page you will see the page for your engine, maybe ask the guys there.
The plug shouldn't have anything to do with a lack of power. The 1990 7.3 is an all mechanical engine. There are no computer controls for the engine, the trans does have a control module to shift as it is an electronic trans.
If you post your question in the pre-power stroke forum you will get more answers. A picture of the plug would help. Is it a connector with wires on both sides, an empty plug, socket or connector? It would help to know these types of things.
On the passenger side top of the fender is a large connector with quite a few wires, one is a large power wire, yellow if I remember right. This wire can get hot, melt and cause various electrical problems depending on if and how many other wires have been damaged with the melting.
