I'm running MTs because it was to be a mud race truck; I needed dig and self clean properties at the extremes... Then i found out that they are fabulous in deep snow, and suck on ice... Pretty good in deep mud, but not much improvement over a basic M+S tire in moderate mud IMO. If you see a lot of glare ice or glazed hardpack, go for an AT or get your MTs sipped- otherwise there just isn't enough small grippers to bite in.

It depends a lot on personal preff I think... and what your used to driving on what.

A buddy of mine prefers BFG ATs, for all around driving, snow ice, or job site moderate mud... he won't off road that truck though so i don't know how they do in deep(like more than half the height of the tire-35s) mud.

Another friend prefers the BFG KMs, a MT.
He runs ATs on one truck and likes them for the same reason as the other guy, but prefers the MT now that he ran a set for a season... much better in loose or deep snow mud, since they don't load as easily. but not as good on ice as the AT. But he prefers better ability in the deep stuff.

But both tires on both trucks, with either driver would be perfectly fine and 99% the same driving... just depends what your used to I think. They both run BFGs because the rubber compound is soft enough to grip good, but hard enough to get 2+ years of daily driving on a set.. My Hankook MTs have worn almost as well, at half the price... Again, depends what your used to, and what you trust.

Unfortunetally they discontinued the KMs in favor of KM2s... If you like big lug open tread, you'll love these... looks like a cross between an MT and a rock crawler tire... deeper than a MT tread, but slightly smaller lugs--but not as small as the main lugs on an AT-- and more open between lugs. Should self clean and not load much, but I'd worry about it digging too much instead of giving needed float to keep from getting stuck. He just got the KM2(35s) put on and had them sipped for times when he's on ice. We'll see how they do.

If you've ever run an AT in your off roading, or know someone that does and they get by OK by your standard, then get them... but if your unsure at all, I'd get the MT and be done with it... No more doubt whether you will ever need them, because you will have them. Just get them sipped for winter driving...

I mean, the cost isn't that different, a 35 is a 35, once your into that price range, its not much difference. I'm all for being preparred for the ''what ifs'' tho too.

Personally, I'm looking for something halfway between an MT and an AT... more open like the KM2s, but still having some smaller secondary lugs like an AT. ( Any sugestions?)

G.
