Sync connector

New truck with sync however when the salesmen went to pair my phone with it none of the related buttons functioned. Left and later scheduled an appointment to have the sync issue looked at however they weren't able to fix it due to not being able to communicate with the vehicle because their scan tool didn't have internet access? Anyway I had already tried pulling the fuse and putting it back in with no luck so decided to open the access panel and make sure the thing was plugged in assuming they hadn't checked since their scan tool wasn't functional. Upon opening it I noticed a bunch of butt-splice connectors on some of the wires. Any opinions on this? Possible it didn't work straight out of the factory and was fixed this way or other?

It has definately been modified; when the truck leaves the factory the connectors do not look like this!

It's very puzzling to me as I don't see any evidence that this was done due to a short where insulation had been melted off. It looks like only 7 splices in the bundle and the others are untouched with no signs of damage. I can't imagine these would be cut these as some sort of diagnostic procedure? The other thing I found odd was the dash tray/cover was supposed to be held down with bolts but there was phillips head round washer screws instead.

that certainly isn't right. Something happened to your harness that should had never happened. You definitely need to get on the dealer's case to get this straightened out.

Do you need one of us to post a pic of our connector to show them a comparison?

No, I've seen a few online already from where people add a cable to the second usb connector on the module. I was just curious if anyone has ever seen wiring spliced like this from the factory.

Actually if anyone has a 2010 with a build date of 5/10 or earlier with the sync microphone in the headliner I'd be interested to know what the harness wiring looks like. According to the dealer service dept. they have seen some with the crimp connectors but don't know why. In the little bit of research I've done it seems in 2009 and early 2010 the sync microphone was in the rearview mirror with a TSB fix of a stick on microphone on the headliner which required wire splicing at the nearest junction. I'm wondering if the modification to the harness was done by the factory to accomodate the revised microphone in the headliner rather than the original mirror mount. We looked at another on the lot with a build date of 10/10 and the harness was untouched.

And you are sure those wires in the picture are not coming from the head unit, to speakers etc?

Thanks

I'm not sure what is at the other end of those wires, quite possible all those in question go to the head unit. I haven't had any luck finding a wiring diagram of the connector.
