87 clutch system

I am planning on a 87 full size bronco 2 wheel drive conversion and was thinking about a manual trans but did the 87 and up have a mechanical or hydraulic clutch system,I prefer a mechanical clutch and can I make a early 80s system work in the 87 to 96 bodies. Does anyone know if the 87 and up truck 5 speeds have a removable bellhousing as if I go to a mechanical clutch I might have to use a mustang 5 speed on this build but could give a hydraulic system a try as I will most likely be buying a complete truck for the suspension and other parts.

As far as I know, the clutch systems were all hydraulic by '87. I don't believe any of the 5-speeds from '87-up had removable bell housings. I have no idea if the older mechanical clutch setup will fit the '87-up trucks.

It would probably be easiest to use the hydraulic system since the donor truck would have it but I guess they work just fine but I like the easier to maintain mechanical system.

Actually the hydraulic systems are much easier to maintain. They don't need adjustment unlike a mechanical system.

I'm partial to the hydraulic systems myself..I think they work well. It's pretty much maintenance free. Maybe you run new fluid through it every now and then, but for the most part you just replace the parts when they go bad or when you have the trans down

Why would anyone prefer a mechanical clutch that needs to be adjusted over a hydraulic system that's completely maintenance free?

And why would anyone build a two wheel drive Bronco?

I would rather adjust then mess with the more expensive hydraulic system,if a mechanical system breaks I can usually find something to make it work or make the part when the parts stores are closed. I have not had to adjust the clutch yet in my 65 galaxie since I put it togather 4 years ago and I drive it all spring, summer and fall,I dont need 4 wheel drive and like the looks of a Bronco and want it lowered. GM and Chrysler made 2 wheel drive versions of the Blazer and Ramcharger but Ford did not with the Bronco so I am going to make my own.

Unless it had a 408 stroker under the hood, I agree!

Hydraulic really is the way to go now too!

It will eventually get a stroker motor but if I use a truck trans I will use the hydraulic clutch,if I go with a W/C T-5 I will use the 80s mechanical system. I feel more at ease with the mechanical clutch system and definately do not like a cable clutch,my mom had a chevette with a cable system and replaced a few cables but never had any problems with the mechanical systems I had over the years. I had a 57 F100 and a friend had a 60 GMC and both had hydraulic clutches and it seemed like I was constantly working on them.
