I didn't know they still offered that...I haven't seen that feature in a LONG time except for in the Cabellas edition in 08 r 09 models.
I personally really liked the manual pull stick that used to be available.
The ordering guide says that manual locking hubs and manual shifter (for 4WD) are standard on the XL and XLT. Electronic Shift on the Fly and auto/manual locking hubs are an option on the XLT and standard on the Lariat.
He has a lariat so his truck has auto front hubs and he has ESOF from the dash.
The options on the front hubs are Auto/Lock.
Yes, you can engage the ELD in 4x2 or 4x4.
I tend to stick with the 4x4 option first as it is more effective when required.
I've only used the ELD option for fun, because I have it but haven't had to use ELD because 4x4 couldn't handle the situation.
I recently discovered that you need to check your hubs once in a while. While washing my truck I saw that the hubs were manually set to lock. Don't know who, when, where it happened and could have driven a couple hundred miles like that. I saw no dash indication of it, so no way to really know.
yes the locking diff deactivates after 25 or 30mph? i know in a gas 2011 truck i was driving i didnt realize i was burning the tire off it off every stop light, then once i did i locked the diff so i could spin both haha but it did shut off after 20-30mph which would kinda **** me off honestly is there any way to mod it to keep it activated anytime you want?

I am sure if there is a will there is a way. I think the 4L cutoff is even lower, 12 - 15 mph comes to mind.
Thanks EVERYONE for this "learning curve". I never had 4x4 before and only purchased it because of the resale. I did have several times with my older truck where I needed a tow--wet grass with a 5th wheel is sometimes a problem. I am certain that I will have opportunities to use it. The lower range will help backing the rv into the home port!!!

I believe the hubs are actuated using vacuum. Not that I've actually looked at the system, but I read that on here somewhere. And we're never wrong
The ELD works at or below 25mph, as stated. It will also disengage if you exceed 25mph. This is a good thing.
I've done a bit of 4x4 (I posted a thread about it a few days ago) and am *very* impressed with the capability of this truck. The stock Michelin AT/2 tires are the weak link, however. I would not count on them or the conti's (especially not the conti's) being able to get you unstuck. This past weekend I nearly lost control going VERY slowly up a slippery hill in 4x4... the tires just caked with mud and started sliding around. Mind you, I don't do this for sport - my side business requires a decent amount of offroad driving. sport offroading takes a bit more capability, and I have not tested it that far... but I have a good feeling that it would perform just fine.
Those of you who have already upgraded your tires, fret not. The truck is as capable a 4x4 machine as I've ever driven.
