If you are at 180K, why not take the injectors out, have them cleaned and tested and then reinstall it with new O-rings?

That would probably be a good idea if I end up pulling the injectors. How much does it cost to get each injector tested?

Based on the feedback that I have received in this thread, I think I probably won't mess with them unless I start to have issues. At that point I will probably get some rebuilt ones.

Hard to say. Check with your local shop. Mine charges $45 per. That is to test, clean and re-O-ring them.

They will lose efficiency BEFORE they have issues. Take my other cars. The 99 Turbodiesel worked fine. Injector test said differnt. New nozzles were needed on 4. My gasser had varied flow numbers. One of them had a partially collapsed filter. Without a flow bench, all you have is the SOPT dyno which is inaccurate, at best.

I agree with alkim, to a point. My last (2) sets of injectors RAN PERFECT in the truck, but both were considered FUBAR and not rebuildable (damage from contaminated VO - allegedly).

I just helped a friend swap out his (original) injectors at 380k miles. He developed a dead miss in #1. The o-rings were all FINE though.

My plan is to run the Excursion until there is a problem (its at 240k now). I am resisting the urge to 'upgrade' until then.

I don't know a lot about injectors but paying $45 each seems kind of high. Do they do any internal work on them or just clean/replace outer o rings. I think Clay has the rebuilt ones for $130 each. I'm not going to do this any time soon so not a big deal.

They will clean and test them. Again, you need to talk to your local shop. They will give you a flow sheet where they tell you roughly what each one flows at. If the shop is large enough, they will have a bunch of these injectors to mix and match till they get constant flow, should you desire. These injectors are not easy to hook up. You would have to have fuel and oil pressure and electrical signal. My gas injectors are easier. Fuel and electronic signal.

.
I used a inch lb torque wrench that was brand new, it was either way out of calibration, or my valve train was real loose. IIRC most bolts were a turn or two out of spec. The one I broke off took a good three turns.
I have all new hold down bolts in the glove box waiting. Im still on the fence about going in, replacing them, and backing off and re-torquing the rockers before I loose one to stress.....

^^^^^^ Oh dont I know it.....Its easier in your garage than on the shoulder of a busy highway......However, most of my upgrades were done at very inoppertune times.

You mean like when my CPS died in the middle of the road when I was doing 65? Or perhaps when I was about 50 miles away from home when my diode locked up and took the trans with it?

Yep, thats the ones I was talking about.
It very rarely happens in the driveway.
Like when my serpentine belt shreaded in BFE georgia with no spare, and when I lost an injector in BFE Florida, and I heard banjos playing while Larry, Darrel and Darrell..... worked on my truck (pre-50 cent mod, and no spare injector)
Or when I should have dropped my transmission off at the zoo, and let the chimps rebuild it for me......
