Recommendations from another Forum

I belong to another forum and was asking about my Excursion and got a couple of recommendations on things I SHOULD do and want to know if you guys have done them and if so what kind of cost am I looking at and are the recommendations really necessary?
I must tell you I am new to the Diesel engine ownership so any advice you give will be greatly appreciated. Here is what was told to me to do:

2) install an Edge Insight digital gauge, and monitor oil temps vs. coolant temps. If there is more than about a 15* difference between the two, you have a blocked oil cooler, and that is often the beginning of the end, so to speak, if not caught quickly.
3) learn to pull out the EGR valve and clean it a couple times a year. It is a quick and easy process. There are step by step directions on other forums.

So you have a 6.0 diesel we assume?

With his question that answered your question, Yes do the recomended items.

We will tell you here the same thing we told you over there. the 6.0 sucks unless you change alot of things to make it better!

Since your questions are specifically about the 6.0L powering your Ex, I strongly recommend you visit the 6.0 forum here at FTE and read up on your diesel in that forum, where the specifics of the 6.0L PSD are addressed.

I'm not real familiar with the 6.0 since all my rigs are 7.3's, and I don't know what other Internet board you belong to, but it sounds like they gave you pretty good advice.

Thank you. I appreciate good advice and love getting advice from someone who can actually answer from EXPERIENCE rather than saying something sucks when they don't own the something that sucks but repeatedly say it sucks without offering helpful insight.

I have babied all my cars and plan on doing it with this one. I just want to know what things have worked best for others.

I would agree with those suggestions. I have the insight and really like it. I will be adding the coolant filter I'm the next few weeks. I did a EGR delete. I have done some other performance moss but agree with what you listed. Enjoy.
