72 F 250 acceleration

I recently rebuilt carb, new timing set, fuel pump, cap and rotor, plugs, water pump and alternator on my newly purchased 72' F 250 w/360. I am unfamiliar with truck but no stranger to old cars and I am still trying to get choke set correctly, so that may be part of this question. When I am on highway and push on gas I hear and feel it really pick up for a second or two then drops off, it will still accelerate but not the fast pick up that it should.. any thoughts?

Stupid questions first - you've confirmed the butterflies open all the way when pedal is floored? Common error, make sure the linkage is correct and isn't binding on anything. Fuel pump pressure is 4-7 psi, Float level is correct, idle mixture, engine timing, etc.

Sorry for late reply and there are no stupid questions. Yes timing marks were lined up when installed, I did a dry float level check have not done it since carb has been installed. Mixture is good, pressure is good and I am 99% sure butterfly opens all the way I will check float and butterfly tomorrow. Thank you

When you rebuilt the carb which power valve did you put in it? It's rating should be approx. 1/2 of the engine's vacuum signal at idle. I.E. if your engine has 14" of vacuum at idle the power valve should be a "6.5".
Or, the tranny isn't shifting back out of Passing Gear prematurely is it?

Could be something as dumb as a fuel filter also.

I had timing set at 0 TDC and I read it should be 8 BTC and/or 6 BTC. I have it set at 8 BTC know and it feels like the problem is fixed. I still have some minor idle/choke kinks but I am working those out. THX
