Received another notice today for cps recall. I have been putting it off b/c I did not want it messed with since I have been having good luck with the cps in it. I do not know what color it is. I purchased a grey one last year at Ford before traveling from GA to KY and back with gooseneck full of horses but its just in the glove box as a spare.
Am I wrong for putting it off? I tried to get them to give it to me and they will not. The one that is in there I know has been in there for at least 3 years. I have known the truck since 06 but have only owned it since 09. However, I am the only one that has worked on it that entire time. I purchased from the company I worked for that went out of business. It is a 00 F250.
Cam Position Sensor Recall 07S57:
1997 through 2003 model year Ford trucks and vans are being recalled for replacement on the camshaft position sensor (CMP). Affected parts are the old black sensor with the gold-colored retainer. The CMP will be inspected and replaced, if applicable, with the new gray sensor with silver retainer (P/N F7TZ-12K073-B). If the truck already has the gray sensor, it will be released with no repair. If you have already paid to have the gray sensor installed (either warranty deductable or out of warranty), reimbursement is available. Instructions for reimbursement will be included with the recall letter. If you had the CMP replace recently and the old black sensor was installed, you MAY be eligible for reimbursement. Due to the high volume of affected vehicles, new sensor may not be in stock. I advise you call the dealership before going in.
I replaced my CPS and then I received a recall letter. I thought like the first post that if I showed Ford the letter they could give me a new one. Much more economical for them.
On my way to chemo we stopped and service rep at dealer stated bring the truck back and we will take care of it. We brought the truck back and waited 1 hour and 14 minutes for Noller Ford to tell me I had a new CPS and there was nothing they could. The truck was purchased from this dealer new. This $24 part will ensure my next truck is not purchased there.
I just don't want the dealer messin' with my truck. The only time I step foot on their property is to buy a part and that only occurs when I cannot wait for Ed to ship it to me.

My feelings exactly. My dealer wanted 2.5 hours to do the cruise control wiring harness recall - which should take 15 minutes or less. Yeah - I won't be scheduling that work with them anytime soon. I wonder what they could 'find' in 2.5 hours?
I took my letter to the service manager and asked to just have the new CPS given to me in hand. He looked at me kinda strange, but after we spoke a little while he agreed to "process it" as a normal remove and replace. In the end that was the real hold up; how to make the paper work match without actually performing the labor. I was just happy he was willing to work with me. Now I have it in the glove box as a spare while the original black one is doing just fine still.
The PO did this recall. After not much thought, I bought an "original" as a spare from RiffRaff. Now the truck seems to be miss-firing, so that can't come in fast enough. looks like I'll be ordering another "spare."
I think I have about 150 used black ones from the recall, I wonder if I could sell them.....hmmmmmmm?
There was a seller on ebay that had a buttload of used ones too, Ed. They sold 'em for $10 bucks a pop with a no-hassle guarrantee.
I bought two of 'em and when they arrived, one CPS turned out to be non-serviceable. They sent out a replacement immediately, no questions asked.
I then bought another one at a later date, which turned out to be a dark blue CPS, not an original black one, and they again sent out a replacement, no questions asked.
I ended up giving two of them away, one to Nolan (which quickly crapped out on him) and one to Pete. Pete's has worked for quite a few miles, but I think it's starting to give him problems now.
