86 tailgate
i am just wondering what years for the tail gate will fit on my 86? my window doesnt work, they cut the wires at the tailgate and side. tried hooking 12v to motor and it doesnt work, now power from the switch so i might have to run new wires or find where it is cut o shorted. it is rusted so i might buy brand new or if i can find one for cheap from some one that would be great

Tailgates from 80 through 96 should all work. There are rumors that the location of the striker bolts changed at some point in that time frame but I don't have exact information on this issue. If I were you, I would take a few measurements for striker bolt and latch location and start scouring salvage yards. Otherwise, you might cross reference this information with Jeff's Bronco Graveyard. They sell brand new tailgate shells and may be able to shed some light on the while striker bolt location question.
