Wiring Ties Needed

Good morning everyone.

I need to replace a number of the black plastic ties that hold the wiring under the hood to the firewall and the fenders. I can't find them in my F100 manuals, nor in my aftermarket catalogs. There are black zip-ties but they won't do.

The ties I am talking about plug into a hole in the sheet metal and wrap around the wires and snap into place. My f100 is 45 years old and the Arizona heat is getting to the remaining ties.

What does FOMOCO call these ties??? Are there any suppliers where I can buy more??? If not, any suggestions for keeping the wires in place in the original holes?

Thanks!

After looking around more, I think they are called Wire Tie Down Straps. Is this correct? Where can I find them???

There are a few different types of the loop style. Pretty much any aftermarket supplier like the Mustang places or carpenter should have them.

Ford 376914-S is very popular for the 65-66 trucks

They have a .235 in hole and are 3 5/32" long. Max width at hole is .440. This one is for apron I will get the number for the ones on firewall, there is also another style used on the core support.

Posting source only as example, have seen simular in auto parts stores:

46,47,48,49,50,51,52,53, Ford F100 Wire Tie Down Straps: eBay Motors (item 300491981403 end time Nov-16-10 05:07:51 PST)

Have you considered using split loom and connectors. Used on 65 and please with results. They are also available in 't' and inline connectors. Again posting source only as example, have purchased from local napa parts store. If decide to go this route tubing and connetors come in different sizes so make sure to buy appropriate size.

Thanks! I need them on the core support, fender skirts and firewall. I am interested in keeping the truck as stock as possible - that is why I am looking for the original type of clip.

I now see you are in Gilbert. Vintage Ford should have them. (SoCal Speed Shop) They are on McDowell Rd. Good people with a lot of stuff in stock.

A link with phone number.

The loop style for the aprons are very easy to come by. The ones for firewall a bit more difficult new. The core support ones usually break when you take them off especially in the PHX area.

If I were still in PHX I would give you what you need but shipping is not in the cards right now.

The firewall clips have metal in them and can get rusty.

The ones in above post on ebay are not at all correct.

Do you need all the clips or were you able to save some?

I have found some plastic wire hold down straps at NAPA. They are Belknap brand and "will work" but are not like factory design but rather are zip strips with a nipple to plug into the 1/4 inch skirt or core support holes. I will probably go with these if I can't find any stock fasteners. The only problem is the price - 6 straps for $5 plus $10 freight! Or 20 straps for $10 plus $10 freight! I guess NAPA is run by Ben Dover.

Still open to suggestions. So Cal and D.C. and Ebay do not have what I need. I am going to an autobody paint and supply store this morning and will let everyone know what I find.

Dave. YOU ARE THE MAN! The mustang wiring harness straps on Ebay are EXACTLY what I am looking for. I tried every key word I could think of for my Ebay search and never came across these ties. I will buy them. Thank you SO MUCH!

Cool, good news. Can relate to finding the correct key word, I would compare it trying to locate a topic in the FTE search engine, some times ya get lucky.

Dave, after imputing different search terms into Ebay I found another harness strap set with more straps for even less money than the one you found on Ebay. I bought that one instead so the Ebay link above is still good if anyone else out there needs wiring harness straps.

Thanks again Dave!

Any time I see those firewall clips in a yard and intact I grab as many as possible. Not only can they rust but the clip end can snap off from being old plastic. At least California minimizes rust some.
