after toying with a couple different incarnations of DRL's without actually buying and installing the "canadian" module, i decided to use the parking lamps since my 08 has such a large lense and gives pretty good light output. i think this would also work on 05 and up given the similarity of the lense. for awhile i was just covering the autolight sensor to always have headlights on but admittedly, i like the more subdued look that the GM trucks have with their DRL's and not running every light on the truck. it was a very simple wiring task of supplying power to the light assembly from a keyed ignition circuit. i then incorporated a double pull/throw switch in cab that alternately fed power from the original parking light circuit so that i could switch back to normal for the occassional need to "blackout"...might come in handy for ex-girlfriend stalking...ya never know. i'd be happy to supply instuctions and a couple pics if anyone is interested. the job only took 12' of 18-2 wire, inline fuse, switch and a few connectors...under $15.
I wired up some DRL's on my 05 by using a pair of dual color bulbs from v-leds.com. I just installed the bulbs, added some diodes, and ran some wire to an ignition source.

Interesting way of going about getting DRL's, but you should know that on '08-up SD's there is no DRL module. Everything that is needed is already built into the truck and its just a simple matter of having a dealer hook up the computer and change the programmable parameter for DRL's from disable to enable...

no kidding? that would have been nice to know a week ago. but it's done now and serves my needs. maybe i can talk the dealer into making the program change next time i'm in for a service. thanks.

If you don't mind I'd like to findout how you went about doing this. I'd like to try and get some ideas for this exact type of mod on my 99 f150. Thanks.
When my Smart Junction box was replaced, I had asked the tech to "Turn On" the DRL feature when programming it. He tried several times, but it would not work. I wonder if there is some other requirement, like a Canadian VIN or something?
