Does anyone know how to recharge the cooling system or where to find pictures of a diagram so I can do it myself? Not sure if this is what's needed, but I'm looking for the cheapest possibilities first.
It is probably your blend door . It is probably broken. heatertreater.net can fix this issue. I did one on my nav and it was easy.
Or you can test the A/C first. Find the low side valve. Its eather up near the drier(canister) on the firewall or at the compressor itself. Simply put the gauge to it and read it. If its under or around 30 PSI then you need some freon.
Otherwise if your A/C is on and all that is coming out is heat then your blend door is broken which is a commen problem. The website I gave hear will save you about $1000 at the shop. You can do it with ease and save bucks. they have videos and a full writeup for the shadetree mechanic on there page.
Do you have rear air also? Does it blow cold or same temp as front? The front and rear use the same a/c system, so if one blows a noticeably different temp, then you definitely have a blend door issue. If they both blow about the same temp, then you can try a recharge. The location is near the battery. There are two lines (high pressure, low pressure) and the recharge cans you get from the auto parts store will only fit onto the correct line, kinda fool proof. I did a little recharge on my 03 with front/rear a/c and found that the system pressure reads higher than the recommended range provided with the recharge can. After reading around on the internet, I came up with the dual system needing a higher pressure, I believe 60-70 psi, but don't quote me on it. Good luck
