A/C not blowing cold

I have a 06 F550, the A/C is starting to not work consistantly. It will blow cold for a while and then just the fan with the A/C light still on. Any ideas?

I set the temp. press the A/C and the cab starts to cool off..after about 5-10 min. it just blows air, not A/C. ( not cooling anymore) I just bought the truck about 5 weeks ago and have had no trouble with it. ( A/C ) Now when I engage the A/C this is what happens. I have seen the 134 recharge units at the parts store but not sure if there is something else I should check first. There is nothing in the owners manual about this. I appriciate your time and thank you for the welcome.

you can check the A/C Charge and add some R-134a if you find that its low just becareful and dont overcharge it

It also maybe something to do with the Climate Control

I havent seen a link but just did it a few weeks back get the R-134a can that has a gauge and test it first

The refrigerant will only screw onto the right port it wont fit the others its on the Passenger side right by the heater/A/C Box
IIRC you cant add the refrigerant to the wrong port

I beleive that when you test the A/C needs to be on and the vehicle up to operating temp

Its a Great place to ask??? someone always been there and done that

So does the A/C not get very cold or what

if it gets cold and then seems to go warm there may be another issue and the Book that Im looking at isnt the best
Hopefully someone else can chime in that has better info on it

It doesn't get very cold. But that is what happens. Its cold, (or colder) at first and then just "room temp." ( for lack of a better way to describe..) If it is something else and if anyone has an idea?? let me know. Love the truck though. I bought my first Diesel in 87> F250HD super cab with the 6.9. Great truck! This new purchase is an 06 F550 Crew cab dually 4x4 with the roll-a-long package. Has 140k on it. It is a much different animal! I took it on a 200 mile frwy trip yesterday. It has 4.88's and I thought I would be stuck at about 60 mph tops. But it cruises at 80 mph no problem. Rpm's just a tad over 3k. Nice sound! Has AFE intake and Magnaflow exhaust. A couple of other interesting things under the hood, but no tuner. Thinking about the EGR and oil cooler package from BPD. not the EGR delete, I live in California.... GV is also a possibility. Fuel economy is the a concern< but longevity is the key for me. I would like to keep this truck for a while.

Well congrates on the new truck

Might want to think about a coolant filter

and some gauges I use a scangauge

www.scangauge.com

check it out^^^^^
160.00 and a ton of gauges 40-50 depending on a few thing but will get all the main ones that you need

EGT&Fuel pressure have to start from scratch on those no matter the gauge brand you go with as there are no Factory senders for those

Good information and a great link! However, the brake fluid resevior is to the right of the radiator cap and to the left the turbo. The intake tube runs under it and behind is the FICM which is on top of the engine block. I dont see anything that looks like a compressor. But I have limited knowledge, just enough to be dangerous....

The page I linked was a 7.3L, I think. Your compressor will be at the bottom towards the passenger side. The diagram below is looking from the front, I believe.

An F550 may even be entirely different. But the compressor is there.

I'm big on the "do it yourself" and don't say this often but,, You might be better off to take it to the shop. I don't think they'll charge much to check the pressure, and if that's ok they may point you in the right direction.
Congrats on the truck!
