Battery light on!!!

ok guys.... i have an 05 f250 6.0psd....so my battery light came on the other night. i go to disconnect the battery on the psngr side of the truck and i see that the terminal connector has rotted off. Im talking about where the cable that comes from the driver side battery meets the passenger side.... so i ordered the cable from ford.... got it in and i didnt realize the cable is all one piece and has to be disconnected from underneath the truck (i think at the alternator). now im not a mechanic by any means and my truck was stuck at work.... since i didnt have time in the dark after work to get under the truck and disconnect the old cable and connect the new one i figured i could just cut the old wire coming up from under the truck at the battery, cut the new cable before the terminal connector and splice them together....so i did that and taped the connector with rubber splice tape and then taped over that with regular electrical tape.... i replaced both batteries ....the truck started right up!!....but my battery light is still on....it will occasionally go off but eventually comes back on.... any thoughts or help would be much appreciated!!!

thanks!!!

It wouldn't have anything to do with cutting a new cable, splicing, and electrical tape would it?? If the light is going out sometimes it kinda seems like a connection problem.

+1 ........ have the alternator tested.

Why did the battery cable "rot"? That is not normal. Maybe the bad batteries?

i spliced the cable together pretty well not a "half ***" job. used the right size splicer for the large cable as well as using splice tape to wrap it....im not a mechanic but i do know a thing or 2 about electrical..... i hope its not the alternator!

You had better find out quick before it takes out the ficm. That will really mess up your day.

cmalley I am not throwing stones at your ability to perform electrical repairs. It has just been my experience that problems always start with that first splice and wrap of electrical tape. The more breaks in a wire or cable you have the weaker the wire. Like I said this is just my opinion, and is in know way bashing your abilities

just an FYI that cable that you spliced goes to your starter that wont be causing you problem.
You need to get your alt tested.

Look at the front passenger side of the engine. If you have 2 you will see them and the cac tube will have a big flat spot in it.

similar thing happen to me, battery light, then changed alternator and charged batteries. when i put my batteries back in the cable broke off at same spot(but was due to flimsy stamped metal not corrosion) . not a hard swap to put new cable in. ended up changing alt twice, and had to get new ficm. SO BEWARE!!! irregular voltage can cost you alot of money.
