Starting Battery

2007 F250 6.0L PS

I've wondered about this but never really worried about it until we had to jump start another diesel (7.3L) recently.
With a dual battery setup in the diesels, is one for starting (i.e. cranking the engine) and the other to run accessories (i.e. FICM, engine computer, etc.)? Which one should jumper cables be attached to for jump starting?
The owner's manual just shows one battery diagram and tells you to connect + to + and - to -.

On mine I'm pretty sure it's the one on the driver's side.

no they are wired in parrael (spelling???) meaning they are wired together to give you more cca. it really don't matter witch battery you connect jumper cables to you will still get the same output. it's still a 12 volt system just gets more amps out of it since the positives are hooked together.

Both batteries are connected in parallel with really, really big cables. Neither is used for one purpose or another. You can connect jumper cables to whichever is most convenient.

Re: Starting battery

Thanks for the info! That explains why BOTH batteries drain when the radio or lights are left on too long. I was thinking that one was isolated from the other.

no if you look at the passenger side battery you can see the positive (red) cable that runs from it in front of the radiator to the drivers side battery positive.

you all have the right awnser....
if possible hook to the passanger side battery if trying to jump start your truck. as it gets the load closer to the sorce of the voltage and seems to work better, or its just me getting a warm fuzzy feeling when I do it. if jumping off some else it wont matter what ever is closer.

Cheezit, I thought you should NOT jump start other folks if at all possible due to issues with the PCM or other computer components.

If done correctly you shouldn't have a problem.
