Unhappy Oil sample

A little background first. I have a2006 f-250 6.0 with auto trans. Truck has 180,000 miles. I recently purchased this truck from the company I work for. I have all service records from new. 60,000 to 80,000 there was two instances of high pressure oil lines blowing apart. 120,000 miles high pressure pump replaced. 140000 miles turbo replaced. 160000 injectors replaced. 174000 started loosing coolant and decision was made to sell truck. I purchased it then. I figured it was egr cooler and it was. At the time I was not aware of egr delete kits so we replaced the unit and serviced the truck with new fuel filters, oil and filter, coolant flush, trans serviced. I have not lost any coolant since. I changed the oil again last week at 180000 miles and sent a sample to blackstone. It comes back showing coolant in oil. Blackstone thinks it is leaking coolant into the oil. Again I have not lost any. Amount of coolant in oil was only .60%. Is it possible that there was just enough oil left from when it was changed at the time it had the known leak that it showed up? In a week since it was changed and sample sent in I have put 1200 miles on it already. I am going to go 3000 miles and change sending a sample again to see if I am right. What do you all think? Since I am not loosing coolant and it was only .60% I dont think its actually leaking now? Let me know your thoughts. And sorry for the long post.

I'd do another oil change, drive 1000 miles and send in another sample.

SInce I have already put over a thousand miles on it I may change it tommorow and see. I just cant see how its getting coolant now since its not loosing any. And to me .60% could be left over residue.

did you change/or rebuild the oil cooler when you did the egr cooler?

After my EGR/Oil coolers were replaced it took a couple of oil changes for the sodium and potassium levels to get back down to normal, so I think it's certainly possible.

There is nearly a gallon of oil that remains in a 6.0 engine that never drains out during an oil change. Some math whiz might want to do the figuring but it looks to me to be that after any oil change, the oil circulating in your engine is roughly 80% fresh oil and 20% old oil.

It was replaced also. Well I called Blackstone Lab's and gave them a little history on the truck. Great to deal with. They said that most certainly this is an issue of residual's. I was told that this happens alot. They recommended changing oil and filter after another 5000 miles and retest. They said it should go down at least 80% if it is residual. And should disapear in a couple more changes.

I began sending my reports to Blackstone after my EGR and Oil cooler were replaced by FMC under warranty and it took about 3 oil changes to get the residual out. Levels kept decreasing and finally bottomed out. Blackstone is great and their personalization of the reports is top notch.

Math wiz? 1 litre of oil remaining, thats 1000 mls, in a total of 15 litres, (well you add 14 say on a change with filter) means 1000/15,0000 = 6% of the oil in the pan is now old oil. So, if you took a 2nd sample after 2 oil changes, that would be 3% old oil, so, roughly speaking, next oil sample shoudl show 0.3%, the next 0.15% if they dilution factor is what is keeping the measurement up. I would ask them what is the average reading of coolant in % as well. If its say 0.1 to 0.4% I wouldnt worry, after 1 change you will likely be below that.

I want to thank all for their advice. Mike the average % of antifreeze is zero as told by Blackstone. I feel much better now that I have talked to them and heard from all here. Thanks again.
