If those readings are 0.55amps and 0.21amps, that would be 550ma & 210ma which is way to high. My Ford Workshop Book says " All modern vehicles draw less than 0.050amps or 50ma"
My question would be: Have you ever had a windshield water leak?
A windshield leak came to mind when reading this too. I had an issue with the blower motor coming on and draining the battery every time it rained.
Another thing I would do is read your amp draw with the motor off like you have been and remove one fuse at a time to shorten the list of possible issues.
Anytime someone says dvd or stereo issue my ears perk as it is really sad, but more often then not, anything installed aftermarket is often incorrectly done.
Alright guys. You have helped so far and now I have found the draw. Now what do I do?
So I had my son hold the voltmeter while I layed on the ground on the floor and pulled fuses. Someday someone is going to have to tell me how to make the car think the door is closed because I had to lay on the floor with the door closed. And then I got stuck. And then my son laughed at me. And then I tried to get out and may pants got stuck on something and my son laughed harder.
After I got out I checked to see what fuse it was.
#16 - rear seat controller
After removal of fuse the draw is -.011A
So now the factory rear dvd does not work and the controls for the radio on the back of the console do not work.
Have you had any aftermarket electrical gadgets installed? If not, then I suspect there is something wrong with your DVD player. It's not shutting off. Does your radio turn off when you open the door after turning off the engine?
A factory DVD is quite expensive to replace. You could install a switch and fuse in place where the fuse#16 is. You'll need to remember to turn it off when you shut down. A real PITA.
No, everything is stock. And the radio turns on and off like it should.
Yep, the problem is inside the DVD player. Took the overhead console down and disconnected the DVD player and the draw disappeared.
Actually the draw only went down to .060A. When I pull the fuse then the draw goes to .010-.030.
Guess my wife will have to live without it.
Let me ask you, this dvd player, is it hooked to a switched 12 volts on the fuse panel? If so when you turn the car off it will be disconnected from the battery and unable to draw any current.
How do I tell this? It is fuse #16 - rear seat controls. When I pull the fuse there is no power to the factory DVD player or the controls on the rear of the front center console. Howere, the rear climate controls still work.
Couple things about the factory DVD players. One they are technically "factory" because they are installed before we buy the trucks. Unfortunately, they are installed by a factory direct 3rd party installer. Companies Like Dealerworks do things like this all the time. Even as far as factory added power locks or cruise control systems.
The second thing about them is the units are very cheaply made. I would hunt down exactly where they tapped into the harness and double check that the power for the dvd is NOT hooked into the 12+ and is on a fused 12v Typically, you will see the DVD wires added down the B-pillar on either side and tie into the harness in the center console. That harness runs between the black inner skin and outer plastic.
If it is hooked to the 12+ the it is keeping the dvd player on all the time and draining the battery. If it is on a fused 12v and still drawing then I would look at having the dvd player serviced ( outside of the dealer) or replaced. (also away from the dealer)
