Hi every one, I have'nt been on the forum in a long time, so I guess I still Qualify as a newbe. I ordered rear brakes ,drums, bearings for my 65 1\2 ton with out realizing it didn't have a 9" rear end. It looks like a Dana rear end. The axles come out like a 9"The bearings look like sealed bearings[made in china], but it has the rear inspection cover. My question is will the brake shoes fit this axle [don't know which Dana 44 or 60].there is no 60 or 44 stamped on it or tag. I have a 62 with a 9" rear end that I can rebuild. which is better? Was the Dana special order? When I ordered the stuff it did'nt show on the computer at the parts house. Only showed the one axle. I thank yall for any help you can give me
I appreciate the help .I looked at that site earlier ,my rear axle does'nt look like any of the the pumpkin comes out the back. A very old friend of mine[ in his eightys] said there were some Danas put in ford pickups. I'm just running on here say for now. Some one will set me straight in a little while. I wish I knew how to put a picture on here to show you. The bearings are sealed but the axle is'nt tapered 28 splined Thanks agin

The F100's rear brake shoes (11" x 1 3/4"), drums, springs, self adjusters and misc. hardware are the same whether it's a 9 inch, Dana 44, or Dana 60.2.
But, in order to get the correct axle seals and bearings, you need to determine which Dana rear axle the truck has, as there were two different types.
When optional Limited Slip was ordered, Ford usually installed the Dana 44, but the Dana 60.2 (Dana 60.3 1966/68) with Limited Slip was also available as an option.
Limited Slip w/the 9" wasn't available until mid-year 1968 in F100's.
Post the AXLE code found on the Warranty Plate, located on the left door face below the latch. When decoded, the type of Dana rear axle will be determined, and its ratio.
Hi yall , wb 115, colorB, model F-100, Body 381, Trans. F, Axle A9, Gross Wt. 5000 Cert. net.160, rpm3800 ,dso 65. the vin. # F 10JK678691. I pulled the Loose axle out and compared the bearing that I ordered for the 9" rear end And the numbers matched .Looks to me someone pressed on the wrong bearing. Plus there's a lot of grit in the axle tube.Looks like I'm probably going to find trash when I pull the cover. The tag is gone on the rear end.I feel that it would be easier to put a 9" since ther's a lot more of them around. Are the axles the same from 61-66.Different gears, or can I up grade to a 67-72,or is the axle to wide I know where 4 axles are , a 61 62under a trashed unibody, and 2 70 model axles. I sure thank yall for the help.
roundman, If swapping in a 9" is in your future, I want to suggest a 68-72 rear set. Larger brakes that were used through the 80s on all 9" rears were introduced in 68. It has the same width rear as your current.
I swapped backing plates out with axles on my 66, so my truck has the power disc up front with matching correct rear brakes.
Thanks for the info, I was hoping I could go with a newer rear end. Will my drive shaft work, or will I need to modify the newer drive shaft to match my trans?
