Went to change water pump gasket last night (hell) and noticed that there seemed to be something... hanging off the suspension. Chiltons doesnt seem to have any info as to what it is, and i dont know suspension that well. What is this thing?
thats an achor for the sway bar. you can get two new bolts about 8 inches long, two new rubber donnuts for each bolt, and the 4-5 inch spacer rod in the center ... for about $20. at Auto Zone... easy to put on... look straight up from the broken anchor and you should see another 3/4 inch size hole that the anchor pilots in with a rubber bushing.
I've been getting TERRIBLE uneven tire wear for the past year or so, replaced tires, get it alligned, then they wear out in the front. could this have been the cause? i doubt its been hanging off like this for that long, but its possible one side had come loose or something.
Took a look at it and it looks like they just lost the bolts and nuts out of them and came loose. What exactly is this piece called, and what is the sleeve that surrounds the bolt, and where can i buy them? thanks steve!
they are "sway bar end rods" and you can get a "kit" at Auto Zone for $20. there are 2-3 different sizes (lengths). you get a long stud like althread, two nuts, two rubber bumpers and the spacer bar for each side... do both for $20.
Most of the sway bar end links are the long bolt (with hex head on one end), 4 conical washers, 4 rubber bushings, a sleeve, and a nut, repeated for each side. The hex head end will be attached at the lower control arm with a washer and bushing on each side of the control arm. The nut end will attach to the anti-sway bar. Your anti-sway bar should be at about the 8 o'clock position, it needs to rotate clockwise to line up the holes.
