Transmission mount

Does anyone know of a vendor who sells the rubber insert that goes under the transmission mount (lower piece in attached photo)? In all the catalogs I have it appears that they're selling the entire unit - both the metal and rubber combined for around $25.00. I'd rather use the part I have and just replace the rubber.

The last one I saw new it was cast as a single unit! I'm not sure it's supposed to be seperate!

I think you're both right about the new ones on the market. I haven't seen anything that's not a single unit. That's why I was asking the question. It's not really the $25 that has me looking for the rubber as a separate piece. I just prefer to use what was on the truck when I got it since I think it's the original part made by Ford. The original parts usually fit better than some on the foreign junk that's available as reproductions.

Well you got a point there. I would suggest checking E-pay and the usual places but more than likely if ya found one the rubber mount would be worn out on it too.

FYI -- the ones sold by Dennis Carpenter and others are made in India. I could live with that, except that they cast the rubber over the holes for the bolts that go into the crossmember. This isn't flimsy rubber that you can cut away with an Xacto blade, I spent an hour clearing enough away to stick a bolt thru. Other than that, it works and fit fine...

I went ahead last week and bought the same one you have. It looks like it will work fairly well but it still frustrates me that I can't just replace the rubber. The metal piece I have is in pretty good shape and now it just gets discarded.

I think you'll see when you get your new one that these were never intended to be 2-pc assemblies. If it came apart it is totally failed.

You could be right. However, as you can see from the picture I originally posted, the rubber came apart easily from the metal and appeared to me to be something that could be replaced. I wonder if any of the Ford shop manuals show this part in detail.

No, the steel on the top (connected to trans) and the steel on the bottom (connected to frame) are only connected by the rubber. If the rubber isn't bonded to the bottom plate any more, the rear of the trans can bounce all around.

So, while I'm waiting for the new transmission mount to come in, I took the bottom metal piece and cleaned it up and painted it. Then, when I got the replacement piece, I sat down and tried to figure out how the bottom piece fit into the new mount. And then it FINALLY dawned on me that all three pieces in the photo are supposed to be fused together as one unit. I know you guys and gals tried to convince me of this but I guess I'm a slow learner. Next time I'll try to pay more attention to what your saying.

I replaced mine a few months ago. I also bought a repro from Mac's. I compared the old one to the new part and didn't find a big difference besides the bolt holes that were molded over with rubber like Ross stated. I had no problems cutting them out with a sharp knife and then taking a drill to them to clean them up better.

I thought that the new part might not fit because it's a repro part and we all know the track record of some repro parts. However, I was in and out within minutes.

Here are some comparison shots.

Overall, it's not a bad repro part.
