I have a New Process Transmission from a 1983 f600 bolted to a 460. I'm wondering how to id it? It has a high top shift tower and a parking brake on the tail shaft of the trans, also it looks identical to the np 435? Ay input would be appreciated.
i found the id tag on the inspection plate, F OHT-7004-AGA 435 / 9 22 82 FE2
This FOHT trans tag number is in-correct, it should read EOHT-7004-AGA = New Process 435 4 speed / Assembled 9/22/1982.
If it was FOHT-7004-AGA = 1990 and newer Fuller 9 speed trans!

If the ID tag is missing, the NP435 has a shift lever retainer cap (B8T7220D) that has two notches. It's held into the tower by two pins that protrude from the tower.
To remove this cap, it must be pressed down and held down while turning it to remove it.
People are unaware of this process, use pliers to remove it, which tears out the notches. Now, you aren't going anywhere.
The Warner 4 speeds have a shift lever retainer cap (8MTH7220) that threads on/off.
I must of hit the wrong key, but i"ll look again. And the tower and shifter is as you discibed, also my dad has a new process 435 for his 72 ford, and the case, sifter and tabs for the bell are identical. The only differnce is the my trany has different tabs for the bell drilled then his, his is for a 390. Thanx.
