Lights out in dashboard instrument panel
I thought it might be nice to finally put down the flashlight and replace the burned out bulbs that used to light up my instrument panel. I removed all the trim panels but how do you remove the instrument group asm? The screws that hold the instrument group in place can be removed OK but the instrument group just doesn't feel free to come out yet. What am I missing?
Also, does anyone know the secret for successfully searching a topic in this forum?
Thanks - Jack

Its a little tricky. If you want to take it all the way out, you have to disconnect the transmisson shift indicator too. There is a small screw on the right side of the bottom of the steering column and then the indicator cable has a loop on the end that has to be unhooked. Also when you unplug the connectors on the back, be carefull not to damage the circuit board.

You may want to look at this link below on removing the cluster.

Sorry to resurrect an old post, but I'm trying to replace my lightbulbs in the instrument cluster as well. I've got everything removed except the shift indicator. Am I to understand that I should pull the gauges out and then replace the bulbs underneath, or do you leave the gauges in, and spin the entire instrument cluster around and do it from the back? I'm stuck at the moment weighing my options. Thank you.

Hey thanks so much for the reply. I unscrewed everything and when I couldn't pull it out enough to reach the back side I came full stop rather than let my ambition outstrip my ability. I can't pull it out far enough to reach anything on the backside. Should I disconnect the drive indicator and then it will come out enough to disconnect the computer plugs, and then replace the bulbs by pulling them out from the back? I don't intend to be a nag, but I've spent all of my available money making this F150 top notch mechanically, so I'm trying to do some of the cosmetic stuff myself. But I'm a real noobie. I bought a Haynes, but it doesn't seem show this process. Any info well appreciated. I'm learning.
