Remote Start features ???

I was under the impression that the heater would fire up automatically when remote starting the truck. I have the dual zone auto hvac system from factory.

This morning it was 20f outside so I started the truck from the family room so it could warm itself up.

When I entered the truck 5 minutes later, the only thing warm was the motor. The inside of the truck was like an iceberg. The heater blower was completely off, the heated seats were off.

Is there something that I am missing??

The heater will work to where you left the setting when you shut off the truck. l don't have climate control on mine, Just the standerd heater controls and if I want the remote to start the heater and temp,I have to set it that way before I turn off the key. I know with your climate control there is something else you must do . I did read a post on here that did address this.

If you have the climate control, you need to make sure you left it set to "Auto" before you leave the truck. There is another long thread on this, along with the exact specs of the system if you do a quick search.

And by the way, my only gripe with the remote start is I wish it worked from a greater distance. I park in the garage at home, so no need to start it in advance. At work, I have to park a decent distance away and it's much further than the remote will operate. It's getting cold, so I start it as soon as I can when walking to the truck, but that's only about 7-8 seconds walking time/distance from the truck.

A friend of mine has an aftermarket remote start that works from several hundred yards away, and it notifies him that the truck is running. That would be nice during a snow storm here in SLC.

I had a Astro Start Extended range on my last one and you could be in the back of a WalMart and it would fiire up. The dash would light and the heater etc would come on were you left it.
. I checked the other day and the dash was dead. No lights on anywere while the engine was running. I hope this isn't the way it is. This wouldn't be good for a remote starter. I'll have to remote start and idle it for 10 min and check inside as well.
Do we have a link to the thread about it?

Pretty sure this is it. Look for the comments by PowerStrokeHD, but the entire thread is useful. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ote-start.html

Make sure you leave the "AUTO" button on and it will take care of this as stated in other posts.

I'm not so sure that "auto" always works... I almost never take mine off of "auto" and I've experienced some of the same issues. Kinda makes me wonder if some job 1 trucks (or some other subset) don't work in this fashion.

Interesting. I just put the remote start in mine and it does NOT use the settings I had set the night before.

It seems to turn everything on maximum. Which is nice, because I always forget.

I read that post again. I thought I read in PowerstrokeHD's post that the Supplemental Cab heater won't turn on unless the the ignition switch is turned on so maybe this is why it doesn't feel like heat is coming out soon enough for some. The remote doesn't turn on the switch. This size motor and coolant capacity must take a while to throw heat thus "supplemental heater".

If thats true, then that Stinks!!!!

Wouldn't that be the whole reason for warming up the cab on cold mornings?

Example, when deer hunting,I remote start to get the cab warm,...but the extra money I spent on the dual alternators and supplemental heating cab won't come on until I put the key...kinda pointless.

Switch does not have to actually be turned in the case of remote start. Using the remote start creates the same type of "ignition on" event...

I posted about this in another place. the electric heater coils for the rapid heat will not work with the remote starter. The key must be turned on. I thought I had a problem so I went to the dealer yesterday and was told this. Seems to defete the remote starter for what I wanted it for.
