starting problems
i have a 89 f150 with the 5.8. Ocasionally when i start it the start wont turn off. taking the key out of the ignition doesnt even stop it. i have replaced the starter and the starting solenoid but no luck. need help

We almost had a fire! 89f250 The truck came across the field, the driver shut it off, took the key out and handed it to dad. A few seconds later, everyone noticed smoke coming out from under the hood. Apparently the starter solenoid bolted to the fender well by the battery was stuck and kept current going to the starter, not enough to spin it but enough to smoke the solenoid AND the starter. Almost makes me want to disconnect the battery every time I get out of the truck. Doesn't sound exactly like your problem but frightening, none the less. I'd guess the ignition switch since I've heard a few stories about changing them for various reasons.
