410 FE Marauder swap?
#16
Yeah, I really have a lot of this Fe stuff memorized but I have to admit I've forgotten some over the last ten years.lol
While we're spittin out good ol Fe info, did ya know the 428 doesn't displace 428 cu in? Now come on, be honest with me.
With 4.130 bore and 3.980 stroke you have 426 cu in. Go ahead, put the calculator to it...
What I read was Ford didn't want to call it 426 because of popular Chrysler & of course Ford already had popular 427 so 428 it became.
Exactly.

btw: 410 = 1966/67 Mercury Parklane only. No such thing as a 1966/67 Marauder.
Just a minor, off-topic point of clarification for FoMoCo history buffs:
Actually the 410 FE was a factory option on any lower trim models (Monterey/Montclair/) of the full-size Merc beginning in 1966 (not sure about 1967 MY). I think the 390-2V was standard on all but the Park Lane, which had the 410-4V standard. So you can find the 410 in Big M's other than Park Lane's.
I once owned a new 1966 Mercury Montclair (middle-line trim between the Park Lane and Monterey) 4-door Hardtop, that came from the factory with an optional 330-hp 410-4V with the "then-new-for-1966" C6 automatic, with single-exhaust. So it wasn't exclusive to Park Lane's.
Also, all the 65-66's (2 or 4-dr) hardtops had the Marauder-script and checkered flag emblems on the C-pillar, even though it wasn't an officially separate model, like the S-55.
The 410 used to be able to keep up and occasionally take a buddies 66 428 Galaxie 500XL 7-Litre. The 410 had the torque to lug the heavy Big M and tow a 3000+ lb boat with ease.

Hi Guys... This weekend I scored a 410 Mercury engine and C-6 tranny, both rebuilt with less than 1000 miles on them. Of course, I had to buy the whole 1966 Mercury Park Lane 2-door hardtop to get them. I'm planning to stick the 410/C-6 combo in my 1966 Ford F100 which originally had a 240 I-6. Aside from replacing the engine support perches, do I need to do anyhting with the coil springs for the heavier engine?
Thanks,
Dan M.
Thanks,
